Volunteers contribute such a valuable service to The Lighthouse
Shelter. The dedication of our volunteers makes the services possible and has a
positive impact on our community.
Volunteers have a rare opportunity to bring compassion and hope
to women and children who are escaping violence. The time a volunteer spends
listening or making themselves available to a resident gives her a sense of
comfort knowing someone truly cares. Volunteers sometimes say they came to help
and to give back, but were touched and changed themselves by those they met.
If you are interested in becoming volunteer, The Lighthouse Staff
is ready to assist you. If you come with the willingness to make a difference
in someone's life... we are willing to help you get there.
After completing a Volunteer Application, we will give you the
tools and training you need to provide the best service possible to our
residents. In order to provide direct services, each volunteer undergoes a
routine criminal and child abuse background check and also takes part in our
special Volunteer Training Program. As a part of the program, we give you a
Volunteer Training Manual with valuable information that you can use when you
are at The Lighthouse. We also offer ongoing training sessions just for our
volunteers.
After successfully completing the Volunteer Program, you will
become certified as a Lighthouse Volunteer.
