WHY ALL THE FLAGS???

Lighthouse office lawn, displaying 560 flags, one for each victim served in 2006.

We hope you had the opportunity to come by, or drive past our administrative

offices during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October).  Nothing has gotten as much attention recently as our purple flags.  During 2006 the Lighthouse Shelter served 560 women and children who had been victims of domestic violence or sexual assault in our community.   In order to raise awareness to this number we displayed 560 purple flags with the Lighthouse Shelter logo.  These flags were placed on the lawn as a public display to help us remember victims who have lost their lives, and those who have survived domestic violence.  These flags should also remind us of the individuals in our own community that work everyday to change the lives of victims we serve.  We at the Lighthouse Shelter are thankful for the caring community we live in. We know it truly “takes a village” to make lives better.

Happy Holidays from The Lighthouse Shelter Staff
